Greetings
jACKETWEATHER is a creative recording facility in South Austin, Texas run by producer David Dreesen with friends James Adkisson, Brandon Johnson and Travis Mears.
The facility is a 2000 square foot, two-suite-studio just outside the city limits. We have a beautiful view of almost nothing at all, great rooms with twelve foot ceilings and plenty of beer storage for up to ten people.
At Jacketweather, we focus on maintaining a relaxed environment, offering affordable production, nailing BIG room tones and participating in above average whiskey consumption. Is it any wonder that 2008 finds us celebrating 11 years of making records in Texas recording studios owned and operated by David Dreesen and crew?
The current jacketweather facility can accommodate large bands for tracking as well as provide overnight sleeping space for 5 (+ a couple on the lounge floor)
Any questions unanswered on this page? Just give Brandon a call and he can fill you in.

Tracking Room
The 30x27 Cutting room has 12' ceilings and was acoustically and aesthetically designed to be a comfortable- whole band- live tracking room. There is also an attached 11x8 isolation room.
There are clear views between all rooms thanks to large picture windows and sliding glass doors.
A separate lounge has sitting room, tv, bunk beds, fridge, microwave and coffee pot. Also, chairs and a second fridge on the covered deck for extra beer.
We are currently in the process of adding bathroom and shower facilities.
We have several drum shell options, guitar amps and effects- we discuss gear in preproduction.

Method
We generally LOVE live tracking but almost always insist on recording to a grid- A very general example of our method of recording is:
Preproduction meetings a month or so out from your session.
A tracking block of roughly one day per song, followed by overdub sessions for touch ups if needed in the weeks following the lockout.
Post production begins (building composite tracks, pitch correction, etc) resulting in a rough mix from your engineer posted in MP3 format on our FTP. You deliver Mix notes followed by another unattended mix...then you regroup at the studio for tweaks and an artist attended final mix approval.
Mastering is arranged by your engineer and is done in house by a different pair of ears unless you have a mastering house you want to work with, in which case we are happy to help that go smoothly as well.
There are no rules here. We have all made records many different ways, but this is a general plan that has often worked for us.

Rates
We all prefer flat rates by song or project. There are 3 engineers currently approved to use the room and each has different rates
Album rates range from 2-5k
Per song rates are from 250-600 depending on engineer/producer you want to work with and how many songs you are doing.
Daily rates are about the same as per song rates if you prefer to think of it that way...or if you are tracking a live record or rough demo with little or no post-production needed.
Deposits are the greater of 25% or 500.00 and record balances are due before the release of the first mix unless arrangements are made in advance with Brandon.
Mastering is done by David Dreesen for a flat 300 per album or 45 per song if you didn't track at jacketweather.
Brandon handles all session requests, budgeting, payment plans and scheduling... so call him. He's not very mean at all. 512.731.6094
